Standard #1

As teachers, we need to understand how our learners grow and develop while understanding that this development varies through all kinds of diversity. Teachers should use this understanding to develop age appropriate, engaging experiences in learning.

 As teachers, we are to maintain an expectation of high standards by providing an inclusive classroom that allows all students the opportunity to be successful. 

Learning Environments

Standard #3

As teachers, we are able to collaborate with others to maintain an environment that supports all learning, aids in social interactions, and fosters student engagement and intrinsic motivation.

Content Knowledge

Standard #4

As teachers, we are able to understands the main ideas, inquiry-based tools, and structures of the discipline(s) that we teach. We create learning experiences that aid these aspects to allow for content mastery.

Application of Content

Standard #5

 As teachers, we are able to make connections between concepts and engage students to view alternative perspectives which allows them to develop their critical thinking, creativity, and their ability to problem-solve issues throughout their world. 

Assessment

Standard #6

As teachers, we are able to understand the different methods of assessment and their effectiveness to engage learners to learn, assess their progress through a concept, and aids in decision making.

Planning for Instruction

Standard #7

As teachers, we are able to plan instruction to meet the needs and learning goals of our students in a way that challenges them to expand their knowledge. This can be accomplished through making connections through content areas, developing interdisciplinary skills, pedagogy, and the students' prior knowledge.

Instructional Strategies

Standard #8

As teachers, we are able to understand and use a wide array of teaching methods and materials that allow us to encourage expanded understanding of the content, and enable them to build skills to apply this knowledge in ways that mean something to them.

Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

Standard #9

As teachers, we are able to participate in ongoing professional development and self reflection through the use of evidence based off of previous experiences, the community, and other professionals. We do this to ensure that we are continuously meeting the needs of all learners.

Leadership and Collaboration

Standard #10

As teachers, we seek leadership roles and opportunities to be involved with our students' learning through communication with community members, parents, other staff, and collaboration with other professionals to strive toward advancement in learning and the profession.
